For weeks now, i've been obsessing about tattoo art. I do alot of surfing/searching through Deviantart.com. I have several distinct ideas about what I want permanantly inked on my skin. I took this past Friday off and did some calling around to try and get more info. Couldn't seem to find any open shops. Wierd. Got somebody at Star Tatoo (heard good stuff about them from Allen Decter...) and guess what.... Tatoo Convention in town THAT night. What one might call the Perfect Storm.... but alas....wanted somebody to go with me....not required but preferred......a text conversation follows...

Me to Richard Lee:
Any interest in the tattoo expo tonight?

Richard:
"Thanks but totally not my scene."

"Two words, Midget Wrestling"

Hehehehhh.....success.... Good times... A trip to Marble Brewery first to properly lubricate and then to the show. Not what I expected but good. I got to meet up with the artist I'm most interested in for doing some new work on my shoulder. Kelly Gormley with Addictive Ink. He does amazing illustrative work in color. Exactly what I have in mind for one of the pieces I want. Also ran into Ben Kirby at the show. Good guy. Friday night was cool. Richard and I checked out the whole show and of course wrapped it up back at Marble for the worlds finest IPA. Saturday rocked. Got lots of DZ biz done, Rode a load with Ben, did a couple of stand-up tandems and then home with the kiddo. Watched the new Wallace and Gromit, then Aliens vs. Monsters with her. Next up. Myers rum, coke, and fraggin' with my Battlefield 2142 clan, "W]M[D". I cannot bitch much about my life. TTFN.....

Interesting day. Got a chance to fly the new lens and helmet today. This lens is sooo wide you can even see the left side of my face. What a trip. It was a quick cut of the video, yeah, too much canopy footage but the new setup is excellent for AFF.

Minor Inspiration

Today when I finally pushed the cats off me and got up , I started surfing and hit my buddy Dylan's blog. First thing I notice is that he did a cool new graphic. So.... Of course it inspired me to Gimp a new logo for mine. It hopefully captures a few of my passions and an 'ode to that damn addicting game I play, Battlefield 2142. (my personal clan tag is "=boom=" and my handles are "iFLYtrv9" and "a_skydiver") I've even upgraded my PC to a 2.8ghz quad-core, 2gb ram, nvidia 8800GTS(640meg), with a 22' 2ms LCD! I'm also thinking very seriously about one of these to make up for the time I sit on my ass playing THAT DAMN GAME!

So anyways, I also notice that Dylan and family are moving into a new house this weekend (didn't know that) so I hope that all goes well. Expect a call dude.

Recently, Randy's "friend" (sweetie if you ask me..) helped him copy and send me some photos of our old Coastie days. See if you can find me, Randy, and Dylan ! Yes, there is a stain on the pic, probably Randy's friggin chewin terbacky. HA!

So anyways, back to inspiration... Recent events on many fronts have caused me to reconsider my sources of inspiration. The usual rhetorical questions come to mind. What inspires me to what? When am I most receptive to inspiration? Why the hell do I so easily get off track when inspiration fades? These are questions that I'll probably never answer completely but at least a silly little new logo came out of it.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I haven't updated my blog in damn near a year. Today though was a good enough reason to do so. Yesterday I did two Tandems and two AFF's. But today is Sunday and also Veterans' Day. I slept in until 10. I hopped on the motorcycle, flew down the mountain, pit-stopped at Seattle coffee down on central to have a quick double tall soy latte and a chicken salad sandwich and off to Belen. I needed my Sony handycam from my locker at the DZ and the weather was amazing. A long twist of the throttle and I pulled up to the hangar. Immediately Ken grabbed me for AFF. Ok. Beautiful day, Zrex and jumping. Who could possible say no ?. Besides, one of them was a photo-shoot for "Outdoor" magazine. That was a cool dive. Me and Ken took up one of the journalists while Krishan flew his always awesome video. It was late in the day with the most incredible light. Ken and I turned the falling formation to face the sun so Krishan's cameras would get it in all it's high-speed glory. Afterwards, I didn't even have to pack. I've got a new Cypres2 going in my rig and just had to leave it with my rigger. Sweet. Back on the bike for a 100mph long twist of the throttle home. Yes, it's true, I'm a junkie. Can't really help it and I don't want to.

After I get home, I check voicemail. Laurell and I had forgotten her Mom's bday present here and I needed to drive it over. I dropped it off and hung out awhile. Michele was doing ceramic tile on her new porch and Laurell had Katlyn over and were being very funny little girls.

Now, I just upgraded my computer at the house a week or so ago. A new 6600 2.4Ghz quad-core CPU, 2 Gigs of Corsair memory, an NVidia650SLI motherboard and an NVidia 8800GTS card. See, I've gotten hooked on Battlefield 2142. Multiplayer online voip-enabled, squad-based team combat set in a not-so distant future. Lots of online server to play from, some with names like "KBK" , or "Kickin' back killin". Yeah....

Anyways, about an hour and a half of that and here I am finishing up the oh-so timely blog of the year.

So, remember the "Paper Towels and 409" post? Fast forward to today and see the little guy grown up, well sorta. He's about 7 or 8 months old now but still very "puppy". He is a vacuum for anything that might be food and hits the floor. Total sweetie though. He has alot of the Bernese coloring and the shape of an Aussie, 'cept for the huge tail of course. He definitely has the "heeling" instinct. My daughter seems to excite that spirit in him regularly with squealing/racing game around the house.

Lynn's Birthday Weekend.

A pic of Mark, Randy, and I. Last weekend I went up to Dallas (you ROCK Michelle!) for Lynn's birthday and partied with the Texas gang. I stayed with Michelle and Tony of course and we all had a hellova' time. We drank some really good tequila and of course plenty of beer. Some of the highlights included Mark and his PeeWee Herman impersonation on top of a piano at Gator's in downtown Dallas. Lynn get her ass slapped over and over while she got her 40th bday tshirt signed by total strangers. Randy wore a penis on his nose and Tony and I rode their Harley's. Man! I needed that.

Life changes constantly doesn't it? My other dog moved out of the house a few days ago and my shepherd doesn't like being lonely. Sooo, I knew I'd need to find another dog. So a few trips to the local animal shelters around town and we brought home this little guy. He's Bernese Mountain Dog and Australian Shepherd mix. What a cool combo! Three months old and verrry happy to be out of the pound with all that noise and those other scary dogs. He eats like a horse and already likes doing his business in the yard but the tile floor works in a pinch too. Puppies are puppies after all.

Here is a simple bash script I use to record live audio straight to mp3 on disk. I setup a KDE app-launcher to run the script in a terminal with these options:
--vt_sz 72x10 --noresize --noscrollbar --nomenubar --notabbar -T "dsp capture"
I setup another script/launcher with a "killall sox" command. I put these on the toolbar for quick and dirty line in captures.

I was cruising uneasysilence and found a link to Pandora. An ingenious way to find new music. You plug in stuff you like and it finds similar stuff and plays it for you. I love collecting music but I can't stand the stale formula that corporate radio uses for introducing new stuff. The internet truly rocks in this regard. Ever since the days of Crazy Moon and The Sun Worshippers, where Dylan and I recorded stuff in my living room and posted it freely to the internet, I've revelled in the ability to find new music on the internet.

Hmmmm, just watched Donnie Darko. Time travel has alway intrigued me. For the obligatory blog links, visit here. This leads to stuff I just don't understand (as of yet), but does make me think about the concepts. Would I change things? Unfortunately, emotion, even though I'm a man, not a woman, rules my thoughts here and I realize that changing things in my past would change who I am today and dammit, despite my faults, which I accept, understand and have really begun to appreciate. We are a culmination of who we were, who we want to be and who we don't know yet. The "who we don't know yet" is because of things that haven't happened yet. Whatever, we all really live in the right here, right now. Man, get on with it.
